Calling home

This lovely pair of travelling ducks decided to venture to London during a wet, February weekend. Their trip was quite a success, having managed to not get run over by the locals. They also enjoyed the food (it’s actually quite good!), the convivial ambiance of London pubs, the shopping, a musical (Wicked!) and a little bit of culture (The British Museum).

Longleat

This is Travis the travelling duck and his wife Betty at Longleat, looking at the animals!

Longleat Safari Park, in Wiltshire, England was opened in 1966 and was the first drive-through safari park outside Africa.

The park is situated in the grounds of Longleat House, an English stately home that attracts tourists and is the current home of the 7th Marquess of Bath.

The safari park was the first of its kind anywhere in the world and was considered to be a massive breakthrough in the way in which captive animals were kept, with the animals roaming freely and the visitors in cages (cars).

The British Museum

The duck is admiring a selected part of the Elgin Marbles. The marbles are a collection of classical Greek marble sculptures, inscriptions and architectural members that originally were part of the Parthenon and other buildings on the Acropolis of Athens.

The British Museum is a museum of human history and culture in London. Its collections, which number more than seven million objects, are amongst the largest and most comprehensive in the world and originate from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.

The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. The museum first opened to the public on 15 January 1759 in Montagu House in Bloomsbury, on the site of the current museum building.
