Naaga Al Foukani

Instead of going on a tour to popular Abu Simbel starting from Assuan, Luck Duck Sheila chose a more individual and cheaper treat. She went to the western side of the Nil on a small pirogue/feluke operated by the locals and went up to the Assuan Necropolis hill. It was visible from Assuan  close to Naaga Al Foukani and caught my attention. There is a temple up on the hill. There were several caves or cave temples below it which host some antique egyptian graves. No entrance fee was required. (as I read 2013 now they charge entrance fees) It was quite windy up there, so Sheila had to take care of my backpack. We saw some camels too at the bottom of the hill which probably can be rented for transport on organised tours to Simeon Monastery (6’th Cnetrury) but we walked all the way up the hill. The view down on the Nil and Assuan Dam is nice and impressive.

Before going on another diving crusade along the cost of southern Egypt including a visit of famous Elphinstone Reef Luck Duck Sheila spent some days in a hotel in al-Quasir Egypt. The room service seemed to have liked her, as I returened from a dive at the beach/house-reef I found her like this.

The Elphinstone Reef can be a quite challanging dive site because of the strong currents and the depths of the dives there which tend to go beyond the depths of normal recreational dives in the hope to see some really big fish. Since 2007 4 divers are missed  after they drifted away in the strong current already back on the survace. Only one out of the group could save himselve by swimming to a 15 km remote beach.

Luck Duck Sheila in Egypt 1995 at the Thomas Reef by Sharm el Sheikh

Sheila used a break from her duties on the diving boat on the Sinai for a trip to Kairo, Egyt to enjoy the beauty of the Pyramids.

Sheila also experienced an earthquake 1995 in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt. The water tower by the pool was tottering significantly and the floor of the pool broke so the water was leaking completely out of the pool and the pool went dry and was not fixed til the end of the vacation.
